Pastor's Corner:
A New Word In The Marketplace
There is a word this is starting to become popular again. I am surprised about this word making a resurgence. It is a word that became such a "churchy word", that even the church has tried to stop using it because Christians in general have tried to sound liess "religious" and more "relational". The word is "EVANGELISM". This is a word that we in the church thought only church insiders understood. To the church insiders, it is a very important word because it means sharing the good news to others outside the church. But since it was a word only insiders knew, we thought we should use words everyone would understand so it has been replaced by words like "outreach" and "sharing your faith". Now the word EVANGELISM is popping up in job descriptions from engineering to computer programing. They are looing for "network evangelist" or some similar job title. I have not seen any college programs offering courses on being an "evangelist" in any particular field yet, but I would expect that is coming if the language of the marketplace indicates it. These people are supposed to share the good news about the products their company is marketing. They are supposed to get other people and other companiies and the general culture of our population to adopt the prgrams or products as essential tools in their daily functions. In the church we never really let go of the word, we just thought people did not understand it. Well, guess what, it is back. The word EVANGELISM, is now a common and understood word in the marketplace and it is still our privilege to share the good news of forgiveness, hope, heaven, and life purpose with the world. We want to, as we always have, get the general culture of our population to adopt the values and attitudes of a person transformed by the power of Jesus Christ. Do you want to apply today. Hope evangelist are needed in our desperate world. We have the best news ever to share.
